code of conduct
CabbageSec Saigon Updated May 29, 2026
CabbageSec Saigon is a community event built on mutual respect. We want everyone, speakers, attendees, volunteers, sponsors, and organizers, to feel safe, welcomed, and able to participate fully. This document explains what we expect from each other, what's not okay, and what to do if something goes wrong.
who this applies to
This Code of Conduct applies to everyone present at CabbageSec Saigon: attendees, speakers, volunteers, sponsors, organizers, and anyone interacting with the event online (Discord, Signal group, social media). It applies before, during, and after the event itself, including at the after-party and any unofficial gatherings tied to CabbageSec.
what we expect
- Be kind, patient, and welcoming. We come from different backgrounds and skill levels.
- Treat differing viewpoints with respect, especially in a field where disagreement is common.
- Use welcoming and inclusive language.
- Respect personal boundaries, including physical space, attention, and communication.
- Assume good faith. Ask before assuming the worst.
- Help newcomers and students feel included. Mentor when you can.
what is not tolerated
The following behaviors are not acceptable at CabbageSec Saigon. This list isn't exhaustive, but it makes our standards concrete:
- Harassment of any kind, including but not limited to: offensive comments related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neurotype, physical appearance, body size, age, race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion.
- Unwelcome sexual attention, comments, or physical contact.
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
- Sustained disruption of talks, workshops, or the CTF.
- Photography, video, or recording of anyone without their consent.
- Sharing or threatening to share someone's private information (including doxing or "outing").
- Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behaviors.
- Unauthorized hacking or attacks against the event infrastructure, CTF platform, attendee devices, or any networks at the venue. (The CTF challenges are the intended target. Everything else is off-limits.)
reporting
If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it. We take every report seriously.
how to report
- In person at the event: Look for any organizer or volunteer wearing a CabbageSec staff badge. They can connect you to a trust and safety contact immediately.
- By email at any time: conduct@cabbagesecsaigon.org. This goes directly to May Phan, founder and host.
- By phone or message during the event: a contact number for May Phan will be posted on signage at the venue.
If your report concerns May Phan, or you would prefer to report to someone else, please email a designated trust and safety lead at [a second email address to be confirmed before the event]. We will name this person publicly here before the event.
what happens when you report
When you report a concern, we will:
- Listen and believe you. We don't second-guess reports.
- Treat the report as confidential. We only share information with the people who need it to act on it.
- Acknowledge your report within 24 hours during the event, and within a few days outside of it.
- Decide on a response with you, where appropriate. We won't take public action you don't want, except where required to keep others safe.
- Follow up with you afterward.
consequences
Anyone asked to stop a behavior is expected to comply immediately. Depending on the severity, the response may include: a private conversation, a formal warning, expulsion from the event without refund, a ban from future CabbageSec events, or notification of relevant authorities. We will use the lightest response that protects the community, but we will not hesitate to escalate when needed.
a note on the spirit of this
We don't expect to need this document often. Most of you reading it will simply be the kind of community member who makes events like CabbageSec possible. But putting our values in writing matters both as a signal of what we stand for, and so that if something does happen, the path forward is clear. Thank you for helping make this event what it can be.
Inspired by community standards from the Conference Code of Conduct (confcodeofconduct.com), the Berlin Code of Conduct, and the Contributor Covenant. CabbageSec Saigon's code of conduct is our own.
